Drishyam: The Conclusion Sets New Box Office Benchmark for Devgn

Ajay Devgn's Drishyam: The Conclusion has opened to an estimated Rs 95.10 crore gross worldwide on its first day, according to Sacnilk figures, falling just short of the symbolic Rs 100 crore mark. The number represents the biggest single-day opening of Devgn's career and signals that the franchise, now a decade old, has only grown in commercial pull with age rather than fading.

A Franchise That Keeps Compounding

The film's domestic net collection of Rs 66.75 crore, drawn from 15,759 shows, dwarfs the opening-day numbers of its predecessors. The original 2015 Drishyam began with Rs 5.85 crore net, while Drishyam 2 in 2022 managed Rs 15.38 crore on day one. The third instalment's opening is more than four times that of the previous film - an unusually steep trajectory for a franchise built on slow-burn suspense rather than spectacle. It also means the new film has already come close to matching the first film's entire lifetime worldwide haul of roughly Rs 110.40 crore, achieved in a single day.

Occupancy and Demand Signals

Hindi 2D shows recorded overall occupancy of 67.08%, climbing steadily through the day - from 46.38% in the morning to 75.31% in the evening and 76.46% at night. That pattern, typical of word-of-mouth-driven thrillers, suggests the film is benefiting from both pent-up anticipation and positive early reactions rather than front-loaded curiosity alone. Advance booking data reinforces this: reported advance sales across eight show dates stood at Rs 79.71 crore including block seats, or Rs 67.79 crore without them, indicating the franchise's built-in audience had already committed well before release.

Where It Sits in Devgn's Career and the Wider Market

The opening surpasses Devgn's previous best, Singham Again, which collected around Rs 43.70 crore net on its first day, as well as Singham Returns (Rs 32.09 crore) and Golmaal Again (Rs 30.14 crore). Within the broader 2026 Hindi release calendar, the film ranks as the second-biggest opener so far, behind Dhurandhar 2, which recorded Rs 226.6 crore worldwide on its first day. The comparison underlines how concentrated big-ticket box office success has become in Hindi cinema, with a handful of franchise films now accounting for disproportionate opening-weekend revenue.

The Story Picking Up Where It Left Off

Directed by Abhishek Pathak and co-written with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh, Drishyam: The Conclusion returns to Vijay Salgaonkar years after he evaded legal consequences for protecting his family. A renewed investigation, with Meera Deshmukh back in the fold and a new Crime Branch officer probing his past, forms the spine of the plot. The cast includes Tabu, Shriya Saran, Jaideep Ahlawat, Prakash Raj, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav and Kamlesh Sawant - a returning ensemble that has clearly helped sustain audience trust in the franchise's conclusion.
